Starting YOUR ADVENTURE
There are so many things available to players, it is often hard to keep track of everything with all of our updates and custom features. We will always be adding things to this section, so be sure to stop back from time to time, or if you see something we have overlooked, please let us know so it can be added! We keep one running post on the forum under UPDATES, a single thread that is dated and lists changes and updates to the server on a daily basis.
So, here is a list of some general things to know as you begin and also remind you down the line ( it is easy to forget stuff that is running on the server ) :
- Players start their journey in New Haven, a city constructed outside of Old Haven that was destroyed by the Armageddon spell used my the elder mages. This new city is filled with Quests that will give you accelerated skill gains up to 50 as well as rare blessed items upon reaching 50 in the skill the Quest represents. UTILIZE New Haven to start your training!! Accept the Quests! There are "Young" elves in the streets of Old Haven that are excellent for training on and have good loot and useful items on their corpses for starting adventurers.
- There are fountains in some towns -
one is just south of the Bank in New Haven where you start your journey and there is another by the Inn in Britain - where you can bring along a few coins and get yourself an inexpensive horse. Just single click the fountain, hit 'activate'. Do this and after a minimal amount of GPs, a tamed horse will appear, ready for your service.
- Use your YOUNG status wisely! You are protected from creatures attacking you, unless you attack them OR you venture into a dungeon - you are warned going into a dungeon that you will be attacked. If you plan on making a tamer, a good time to start is while you are Young (Moonglow is set up and designed for training a tamer). Take a look around while you can travel in safety. Use this time wisely! Get to know the areas and where healers are for later in your travels.
- The Guard Tower by the First Bank of Britania has a Moongate located on top. This gate will take you to several very nice spots : (1) The Player Vendor Mall (2) The Beginner Dungeon (3) Luna (4) New Haven (5) Minoc Mines ( Rune Library located just outside of Luna. Other locations will be added from time to time and for Special Events.
- A Donation Box is located at New Haven, Britain, and Luna Banks. New Players can take a few items from the chest to assist them in getting started. Once you are settled into the game, you can take extra items you have and drop them in the Box as Donations for other new players to use in getting started.
- Skills and stats are easy to gain. The Forum has an excellent section on Skill Guides and is written by our players. This will give you some good insight into the best way to gain your particular skills. If you so not see the information you are looking for there, then ask in game and players will be happy to assist you with some pointers.
- Mt.Kendahl in Minoc has an entrance to a huge mine with lots of anvils and forges at your disposal!
- Rio the Contract Dealer sells Monster Contracts for 50gp. He can be found in New Haven at the Pub by the Bank and the Virtue building in Britain. Purchase a contract from him by dropping 50gp on him and it will request you kill "X" amount of a particular creature for a reward of "X" amount ( the creatures and reward vary ) If you get a contract that you do not want to do, you can sell it back and get your money refunded by clicking the Cancel Contract button - located on the contract when you open it. All you have to do it kill the requested creature, use the Claim Corpse button and target the corpse. It will be added to the contract until the contract is filled. The reward when done will be placed in your bank box. Easy and VERY profitable.
- There are a lot of escorts available in the city of New Haven, another easy way to make some cash, fame and build up your Compassion.
- Once you have gained your skills up a little, head to Despise. The upper area has lizard men - good for gold and also to collect spined hides which are useful to sell or to make armor. Once you have tackled that area, head straight in and there you will find Ettins and the like. This is a very doable area for a beginner - just remember, drag and kill, one by one. Charging into a group no matter who you are can be overwhelming and end up with dire consequences. Kill, collect items, gold and BANK OFTEN! It is a very good money maker and has paid for many a house on the server.
- Each account is allowed to have one FREE vendor in the Vendor Mall on Marble Island. Just send a PM to staff when you are ready to place your vendor to start selling your goods. Remember, resources are as valuable as armor in many cases.
- Work on your Virtues! All the different Virtues are VERY handy! Most players will tell you this can not be stressed enough. If you are not sure how Virtues work, check it out on UO Stratics.
- Collect gems when starting out - the money is better then you think!
- Bank, bank, BANK! Do not carry your life savings and wares in your backpack. It is inevitable that you are going to die, not be able to get back to your body and it will decay and everything - not insured - will be lost. If, or when you do lose your body, do not fret, so has everyone else and things can be replaced.
- Collect resources - there is good money in ores - even plain iron ore - and hides. Players are always looking to purchase these in Bulk. You can get a Commodity Deed from the Banker and put the resource on the deed for easy selling/trading.
- Farm lands grow many different resources which can be gathered and either sold or used to craft.
- Pick fruit from the trees around bank and other areas to eat - free food! Drink from wells( the bucket on the side ) located near banks as well as fill up your water pitcher for drinking.
- Need some relaxing time, then visit the Casino in Nujelm. Play some Slots, Keno or even Yahtzee to win some cash and prizes. Take the gate atop the Guard Tower by Brit Bank to travel there with ease.
- There is a whole section on Quests - from starter to advanced - to take on. You can find a guide on the Forum to help you in these.
Crafting, Duels, new areas to explore, new creatures to tackle....and new features are always being added for everyone's enjoyment. If you are stuck or have a question, check the Forum - there is a lot of information available. If you are not sure or can't find something, then just ask.
Have Fun!
